My New Photography Workshops for Mums & Dads!

Photography workshops

It is with great excitement and just a little bit of trepidation that I announce my new photography workshops for Mums & Dads! This October 15th (10.30-1.30pm) or 19th (6.30pm-9.30pm), I will be teaching Mums & Dads how to get the best results from their pocket and SLR cameras when photographing their kids (for the times when I am not around!). I will hosting the workshops at O’ Donnell’s Bar & Restaurant in Mounthawk, Tralee. The 3 hour classes will be fun, sociable and hands on with some goodies thrown in. The cost is 80 euro including tea/coffee, treats and a goody bag. Booking is absolutely essential as I want to limit the amount of attendees. You can call me on 086 345 4620 (9-5pm) to book right away or simply CLICK HERE to pay online.

The Dragon with the Fierce Laugh

It has been a while  so I wanted to open on a light note before I tell you what I’ve been up to. This is Dan, age 2 who can’t help but be a friendly dragon..

Ballintaggart House and the Missing Cupcakes..

Cloudberry Cupcakes

Okay, it was no great mystery, we eat them all after the shoot and managed to stash a few to bring home (we were thinking of our loved ones!). Sam and Maureen from Cloudberry Bakery created these incredible edibles for our shoot in Ballintaggart House, which is a 300 year old country home overlooking the amazing Dingle peninsula in Kerry. I’ll tell you about the gang of gals who created this shoot with me, as we work our way down through the shots..

Red Head Model

I discovered our model, Sarah in Tralee. She had never done any modelling, nor was she looking to do any but I approached her, because her red hair caught my eye. Sarah had a beautiful face but then she smiled and I thought this girl has got to be part of the shoot. I was prepared to do major arm twisting but luckily the free spirit that Sarah was, it didn’t take a whole lot. I admired the fact that she was happy to come along on the adventure with us. Kathryn O’ Neill who is head of make-up artistry (Ireland) for Daniel Sandler Cosmetics converted Sarah into a photographers dream. I meet Kathryn quite regularly at weddings and boy does she know how to make the best of every facial feature..

Irish Red Setter Dog

Rory, the resident, red setter felt the need to represent all red haired dogs too..

Carrie O’ Connor from Best of Buds created these beautiful table settings and did all of our room styling. She brought carnations back out of the dark ages, by packing them in tightly and polishing the look off with brooches to make the candle setting below.

Another creation by Carrie, the brooch bouquet…

This is probably one of my favourite looks from the shoot. What really makes the  look is Sarah’s hair. Styled by Tricia O’ Sullivan from Munster Mobile Hair who I might add has just won the Weddings Online Munster Hair Dresser of the year 2011. I would love to see more brides wearing hair down like this, it really frames the face as well as making the overall look very soft and natural.

Our dresses, jewellery and hair accessories were supplied by Kathy in Dirty Fabulous. Kathy and her business partner Caroline source wedding and occasion dresses from the 1930′s to 1960′s. They can come from any part of the world, our prom dress below came from New York so it has a story or two to tell…

Award of Excellence from the IPPA..

IPPA Awards

Last Sunday I had to make myself respectable for the 2011 Irish Professional Photographers Association Awards. Here is what it was all about..

Pictured at the Irish Professional Photographers Awards 2011 are Gareth Byrne, President, IPPA presenting a Certificate of Excellence to Pauline Dennigan, Dennigan Photography, Tralee. Pauline was presented with the cert in recognition for winning 6 gold awards with the IPPA for her wedding photographs which were all taken in Kerry. The awards were held in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin.

Thanks to Gerard McCarthy for the pic.

Funky, Green VW Van…

A very quick post before I sign off and get my butt in gear for the Kerry Wedding Show this Sunday..

This is a shot from Ciara and Damien’s wedding which was on a very cold but dry day in January. It was excellent weather for me mainly because I wasn’t the one wearing the sleeveless dress. I also had the most perfect cloud cover in the sky to produce even, soft light on the skin of Ciara and Damien.

More images to follow and then I’ll tell you about this funky, green VW Van.

My iPod is Making Me Crazy (via Quirkyculture)

Just to reiterate on my iPhone post here. I came across this funny post, with a some very valid points by the Quirky Culture blog…

My iPod is Making Me Crazy My iPod is wreaking havoc upon my mental health. One moment, I’m meditating prayerfully on eternity and the next I’m in a sentimental swoon over my seventh-grade sweetheart. But before I even recall why the song has dragged me back to my adolescence, I’m dancing to an aerobics routine that would make Jane Fonda proud. My iPod has changed the … Read More

Kerry Wedding Show 2011 in Tralee

It has been a while since I posted thanks to a water damaged broadband cable and the slow arrival of repair men, but I’m back, connected to the world again. I am delighted to say that I will be taking part in the Kerry Wedding Show this coming Sunday, 20th Feb at the Brandon Hotel, Tralee. Last year was a brilliant show and packed out. If you are getting married soon or in 2012, you would be mad not to take the opportunity to see some very talented people and the work they produce, in the flesh.

Kerry Wedding Show 2011

I will be selling me soul at stand 20. By the way, this is the only large wedding show in Kerry, so if this is where you are getting married, get your butt over to the Brandon on Sunday!

Check out my work in advance www.denniganphotography.ie.

Fenit, A Source of Inspiration..

Fenit

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Abbey Cummings who represents Tralee & Fenit Harbour Commissioners. If I could clone Abbey to promote Tralee town, then something positive would start happening. The best thing the Irish Government could do for this country, is to place a leader of progress, like Abbey (who is not a politician) into each and every town. Someone to motivate businesses as an entire collective in how create their own unique solutions for town and business survival. Every single shop window all over Ireland currently has a “Sale” , a sale that appears to have started before Christmas and is still continuing. No vision, no innovation and no hope is what the “sale” sign says to me. I will finish off on a positive note by directing you to the Tralee & Fenit Harbour Commissioners fantastic website by clicking here.
